At our last feminist gathering we had the pleasure of watching and listening to historian and archivist Joyce Jenje Makwenda as she presented her research on the history of Zimbabwean women leaders in politics. ![]()
The role that women have played in liberation movements across the world is often downplayed because of patriarchal systems. As we are celebrating our 46th Independence Day let us remember to learn the role women played in the fight for freedom. We ended women’s month on a positive note as we held a intergenerational feminist leadership session in partnership with Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Zimbabwe what we learnt from this gathering was there is a genuine desire for more spaces where women in leadership positions can share their experiences and lessons with the younger generations. Also how to map out a future for feminist leaders which takes into consideration the importance of the past.
